Rita Sharma
Principal Investigator
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi
Rita Sharma’s research focuses on crop improvement for food and biofuel. For this, her lab generates and integrates high-throughput comparative genomic and transcriptomic data followed by empirical validation using functional genomic approaches.
In collaboration with researchers at UC Davis, UC Berkeley and Joint BioEnergy Institute, California, USA, she has contributed to development of several databases, tools, and resources for grass genomics and improvement particularly rice, switchgrass, and sorghum.
With recent revelations of not-so-dark matter of genome, her lab ponders if interspecific comparisons of coding and non-coding RNAs can reveal functional signatures responsible for determining organismal biology and, diversity in the plant world.
